President’s Note

donald-churnside-300x240Dear Friends:

As I wind my way through my term as president of the Eugene Public Library Foundation, I am continually proud of and amazed by the resources, programs, and opportunities the library affords the City of Eugene and its residents. An active, energetic, and devoted staff continues to expand those resources and opportunities, and keeps the library on the cutting edge of technology and information accumulation and retrieval.

I recently attended a library program on the topic of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The speaker was passionate, knowledgeable, and engaging. In the audience were two World War II veterans, who experienced firsthand the attack. Excellent presentations such as this routinely appear on the library’s calendar. Other highly acclaimed programs foster children’s literacy and school readiness, help teens and adults learn new technologies, and feature a variety of cultural events. I encourage all to take advantage of these opportunities, and benefit from entertaining and educational programs available for all ages, all supported by the Eugene Public Library Foundation.

The Foundation has recently concluded its annual appeal. The response has been inspiring! The community’s support of the library is a tribute to the library staff and the programs and resources of the library. The several well-received programs of the library result in increased support for the library, which in turn leads to more and more programs and opportunities. Hopefully it is a never-ending cycle. Thank you all for your support of the Foundation, and I encourage you to reap the benefits of that support by taking full advantage of our Eugene Public Library.

Yours truly,

Donald J. Churnside, President
Eugene Public Library Foundation
