Thank you for your support at the 2018 Imagination Library Luncheon! On the morning of April 5, at the Valley River Inn, we welcomed Imagination Library families, donors and volunteers to celebrate and strengthen Imagination Library. to accommodate more children than ever before. This crucial program delivers a new book every month to each child’s door, from birth until the age of 5, with their own name on it. Each book includes guidance for parents on reading to their child and engaging them in the fun!
Food and drink were enjoyed by 342 guests as they heard Imagination Library families express appreciation for the nooks their children receive. Judy Newman of Early Childhood Cares talked about the importance of reading to children from the day they are born. Attendees responded to a clear call to make a difference in a child’s life. It was moving and humbling, and we are deeply grateful to you.
Through one-time gifts and monthly or annual pledges, the event raised almost $70,000. Gifts are still arriving at Eugene Public Library Foundation. With 35 contributors signing up for a recurring monthly gift, we are on our way toward sustaining the annual cost of this amazing service to every child in Eugene.
Today, 32 million American adults are considered illiterate. The resulting impact to children and their families includes increased unemployment, illness and poverty. Through our commitment to enhancing early literacy, we are hopeful that the lives of thousands of children and their families will be happier and more fulfilled, just by ensuring a child has a book. Thank you for your help in this very good work.
