Allison* was homeless. After losing her job, she lost her home and her car. Seeking refuge from the weather, she walked through the front doors of the Eugene Public Library. A trained library staff member asked Allison how she could be of help to her. That day, Allison’s life had a fresh start. She learned how to put a resume together, how to do online job searches, and how to apply online for a job. She is now gainfully employed and self-sufficient, off the streets and thriving in her own apartment.
Alex* was a troubled teen. School life was hard, and family life harder. But, he loved to read. Alex joined the Teen Program at the Eugene Public Library. He found a place where he was respected and comfortable. Having found his niche, Alex is growing in a supportive and resource rich environment.
Grant* lost his wife of 43 years. Feeling sad and lonely, he started making regular visits to the Eugene Public Library. He found solace in books, and good company in fellow readers, as he discovered the excellent collection that exists at our library.
Melinda* was in a wheelchair due to a debilitating neurological disease. She was able to use the library’s adaptive technology tools to stay in touch with family and friends. She calls the library, “Her lifeline.”
The list goes on…..
